The year was 2017 and the nail world was shook with the introduction of ‘Mirror Chrome’ nails. Everywhere you looked, be it Instagram or nail salons, chrome nails were the ‘IT’ thing to have in terms for nails. Heck, I myself had Champagne Chrome nails done for my own engagement ceremony.
People all over wanted to get them done at salons as it required gel polishes and more expertise than just regularly painting your nails. Brands were launching versions of the ‘chrome powder’ and ‘nail paints’ for people to be able to use by themselves at home. The 6 billion $ nail industry was saturated with ‘chrome mirror nail’ products that year.
Come 2018, and the trend like many other viral ones, was dead and no one was asking or seeking out chrome nails and it slowly went away and into the archives of viral nail trends. But 2021 is seeing resurgence in them once again. But not in the same manner or even colours as 2017.
What you see now is Gold Chrome used as extremely innovative designs and accents which are applied very intricately opposed to just rubbing the powder all over your nails. The new technique involves using the sealing top coat in a precise manner using nail art brushes to get a particular design. So without much further ado, let’s get into the best Modern Gold Chrome nails of 2021.
1. French Tip Nails
The evergreen French Tips get a makeover with this nail art style. Replace your white colour with a gold chrome, or line the tips with a very thin golden chrome shade to zhuzh up the entire look and make it modern.
2. Abstract Lines
Jazz up any nail art with just a few random squiggles or draw precise ones using a thin liner brush to get these gorgeous abstract designs with a little something extra.
3. Abstract Shapes
Paint your nails completely chrome like you would've back in the day. Then using nail stickers or freehand (depending on design and skill), add other colours so as to colour block your nails. The possibilities are endless.
4. Half & Half
Paint your nails with a light and sheer base colour like white. Apply a matte topcoat and let dry completely. Once dry, cover half the nail with scotch tape/ nail stickers. Then apply a no wipe UV topcoat to the uncovered side and cure. rub with gold chrome colour of choice. Top with the no-wipe UV topcoat again. Remove the tape, and voila, half & half gold chrome nails ready.
5. Golden Accents
Cover your bare nails or coloured nails with no-wipe UV topcoat. Rub with gold chrome powder all over. Now don't apply the topcoat again with the brush in the bottle. Using a thin liner brush, draw shapes and design using the topcoat and the cure it. Once cure, wipe the nail with alcohol to reveal your gorgeous designs and accents.
